In this article, we will discuss some of the guidelines applicants must follow for the LMPC registration procedure. These guidelines cover all measuring and weight instruments mentioned under the Section 47 of the Standing of Weights and Measures Act of 1976.
The applicant must make the LMPC Application for the legal metrology registration with a fee of one hundred rupees.
- The fee must be in favour of the "Pay and Accounts official & quot; in the Department of Consumer Affairs in New Delhi.
- The LMPC Rules define the list of items for weight and measure, and LMPC registration must be only for those items.
- If the filed application is incomplete, the Controller of Legal Metrology will return the application within seven days of application receipt.
- If the application is complete and filed, then the Controller will grant the requested LMPC certificate within ten days of receiving the application.
The Legal Metrology Act defines certain regulations related to the selling and distributing of
packaged products. You must set up a consumer and buyer rights protection system if you want
your business to run efficiently. To establish a protection system, you must comply with the Act
described in the legal metrology and measurement system.
Purpose of the LMPC Act
Legal Metrology Packaging Registrations are mandatory certifications issued to Businesses for the following purposes:
- Import of weights and measuring units
- Manufacture of weights and measuring units
- Pre-packaging of scheduled commodities in India
As per the Legal metrology Act of 2009, those wishing to import/manufacture/deal/sell/distribute measuring instruments in the Indian market must obtain the required registration certificate by filing an application.
Documents required:
- Identity proof of the applicant company/LLP
- Sample of the weights or measurement unit
- Schematic diagram of the unit
- Passport-size photographs of the partners/directors of the applicant LLP/company
LMPC Process
- Furnishing the requisite documents.
- Filing the application online.
- The Department of Legal Metrology will assess the application.
- Send the product for Testing, and obtain and send the result to the Examiner.
5. Get the required Legal Metrology license.
