How Are the Ford Ranger Models Different From Each Other?

The next-gen Ford Ranger is available in Sydney, and we expect them to sell extremely well. The Ford Ranger is already one of the best selling vehicles in all of Australia because of its ruggedness and versatility. There are now eight different Ford Ranger models to choose from, and each one can be customised further. How do you know which one to get? Consider the differences between each model.

The XL Has the Most Configurations of any Pickup in Sydney

The base Ranger is called the Ranger XL. Out of all the Ranger models, the XL has the most possible configurations. You can opt for a single cab chassis, Ford's Super Cab with a 2nd row, or a full double cab with four doors. The XL is the only model with a single cab, which is great if you need a large tray to haul cargo. In contrast, the other configurations give you extra room for passengers.

All of the XL configurations can be equipped with four-wheel drive, though front-wheel drive comes standard. Every XL has a 2.0-litre petrol motor, although you can opt for the bi-turbo version of the same engine for extra power and fuel efficiency.

The Ranger XLT Offers Several Drivetrains

If you're looking for more power, the XLT is a solid upgrade over the XL. The bi-turbo 2.0 litre comes standard on all XLTs, but you can upgrade that further to the 3.0-litre diesel V6, which is the best Ford Ranger engine for towing and offroad performance.

The XLT is available in both Super Cab and double cab configurations, so you will always have room for at least five passengers. In addition, more comfort features are available on the XLT compared to the relatively spartan XL.

The Wildtrak and Raptor Continue to Impress

At the top of the podium are Ranger's two most iconic models, the Wildtrak and the Raptor. Both feature unique styling that sets them apart from the others. The Wildtrak boasts bold orange accents, while the Raptor features aggressive red colouring. The Wildtrak can be equipped with either the bi-turbo 2-litre or the 3-litre diesel V6, and four-wheel drive is standard.

The Raptor takes performance to the max as it can be mated to Ford's 3-litre EcoBoost petrol motor. Don't let the name fool you; the EcoBoost delivers maximum performance offroad while providing efficiency on highways. You'll understand why Ford put racing seats in the Raptor when you step on the accelerator.

XLS, Sport, and Platinum Trims Bridge the Gaps

These three trim levels sit between the others. The XLS gives you the drivetrain options of the XLT with fewer comfort features, making it more affordable than the XLT but more enjoyable than the XL. The Sport trim model offers performance equal to the Wildtrak but without the same iconic styling. Finally, the Platinum model bleeds luxury and comfort, which is ideal if you want the premium features of a Raptor without the aggressive offroad suspension and tyres.

All of these models are available at your local Ford dealer. However, high-end models sell quickly, so you may want to contact your dealer to place a pre-order or ask them to hold one for you.
