The Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Board has filed three new charges against Lumotel Pty Ltd, the operator of the Tower Hotel in Hawthorn East, for violating the Code of Conduct for Responsible Gambling.
The VGCCC alleges that Rumotel Pty Ltd has failed to ensure that the responsible gambling officer is always available in the game console zone and to properly maintain the responsible gambling register.
In accordance with the Code of Conduct for Responsible Gambling, venues should ensure that responsible gambling officers are present at all times during the operating hours of the game hall, and should intervene if the customer signs distress or plays an extended play. The incident must then be recorded in the register.
Failure to comply with the Code of Conduct for Responsible Gambling under the Gambling Regulation Act of 2003 constitutes a violation of the license conditions of the venue operator.
It follows 35 allegations filed by the VGCCC in September against the same operator over allegations that employees failed to complete mandatory training and that its mandatory pre-promise technology, YourPlay, worked on its electronic game consoles and kiosks.
"Just as we do not operate public swimming pools without human lifeguards, stadiums should constantly monitor the floor of the stadium and intervene whenever the welfare of the players is at risk," said Annette Kimmitt, CEO of VGCCC. "VGCCC will continue to pursue stadiums that deliberately do not fully apply responsible gambling codes of conduct."
