47-year-old player, as the new president of the Japan Football Association

Miyamoto, who has served as the executive director of the Japan Association, was selected as the successor of Chairman Kozo Kelp with a majority of support at an extraordinary council meeting on December 24 last year.

He then became the new head of the Japan Association as the provisional council officially voted to succeed the chairman on the 23rd.

 

Born in 1977, Miyamoto became the youngest president in the history of the Japan Football Association. He is also the first president of the Japan Football Association with experience in the J-League and the World Cup.

Miyamoto, an active defensive player, made his professional debut with Gamba Osaka in 1995 and joined Salzburg (Austria) in 2006 to advance to the European leagues. He played for Vissel Kobe for two years from 2009.

 

After retirement, he served as the head coach of the Gamba Osaka Youth Team from 2018 to 2021.

He played 71 A matches for the Japanese national team and experienced two World Cups in 2002 and 2006.

At his inaugural press conference, Miyamoto raised his vision of winning the World Cup in 2050 and hosting the Women's World Cup in 2031.
