What are the advantages of Cat.1 compared to NB-IoT, eMTC and Cat.4

Advantages of the Cat.1 module itself

Cat.1 supports terminal downlink rates of up to 10 Mbps, enabling IoT devices to connect to LTE networks with lower power consumption and lower cost. Since 4GLTE operators around the world deploy based on the minimum 3GPPRelease8 protocol version, operators do not need to upgrade their lte cat 4 networks and only need simple parameter configuration to allow Cat.1 terminals to access the network.

1. Mature Network Coverage

Based on this mature LTE network deployment, lte cat1 upgrades can be accomplished without having to re-lay the network. Internet speeds are higher than 2/3G, which has a huge market in the static IoT market but is not suitable for business scenarios such as real-time voice. the Cat1 product has a maximum downlink rate of 10Mbps and a maximum uplink rate of 5Mbps.

2. Market Advantages

Network capacity requirements will vary across the tens of billions of future IoT connections. According to the industry, 10% of nodes need high bandwidth and high-speed communication technologies, such as high-speed 4G, 5G, etc. 30% of nodes need medium-speed transmission technologies, and the main technologies are Cat.1 and eMTC; 60% of nodes need low-speed connection technologies, such as NB-IoT, LoRa, etc.

3. Lower cost than 4G

Although Cat4 and later solutions support high speeds, their cost price is usually relatively high for the IoT industry, and the high degree of integration of Cat1 offers customers the best price/performance ratio.

Advantages of Cat.1 over other technologies

Compared to NB-IoT, eMTC and Cat.4, Cat.1 has advantages through the following developments:

1. compared with NB-IoT, Cat.1 has more obvious advantages in terms of communication functions. nB-IoT is suitable for scenarios where only a small amount of data is transmitted and is in a stationary state. cat.1 not only transmits a larger amount of data, but also has good mobility and voice function.

2. Compared with eMTC, the biggest advantage of Cat.1 is lower network cost. cat.1 can seamlessly connect to the existing LTE network without upgrading the base station hardware and software. And the signal guarantees that where there is Cat.1, there is 4G signal.

3. Compared with Cat.4, Cat.1 has certain cost advantages. In terms of chip cost, the system optimized Cat.1 is more integrated, the hardware architecture of the module is simpler, and the cost of peripheral hardware is lower.
