In the IPL, Rishabh Pant will captain the Lucknow Super Giants.

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) announced Rishabh Pant as their new captain for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday.

LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka stated on Star Sports that the announcement of Rishabh Pant as the team's future captain was "so very simple."

"As soon as we won him at the auction, we made that decision. However, we waited for a while to make the announcement as a group.

Following a heated bidding war at the IPL auction, the Lucknow Super Giants were able to acquire Rishabh Pant for Rs 27 crores.

He is now the most expensive signing in the history of the auction, surpassing Shreyas Iyer, who earlier this evening received a bid of Rs 26.75 crore from Punjab Kings, after LSG increased the bidding by an incredible margin to Rs 27 crore, while his former team, the Delhi Capitals, chose to make a Right To Match bid of Rs 20.75 crore.

"I'll put in my best effort. That's what I promise you. In order to repay the faith, I shall do everything within my capacity. I am incredibly thrilled and eager for a fresh start and fresh vitality. After being introduced as the new captain, Pant urged reporters, "And have a blast out there with lots of fun."

Punjab was the only source of tension for me (laughs). Their purse was the largest. I thought I may make it to LSG when Shreyas traveled to Punjab. There was a chance. But in the end, you never know with an auction, so I simply figured I'd wait and watch and hope my fingers," Pant remarked.

"We begin with fresh ambitions and hope. And above all, fresh self-assurance. Goenka remarked, "I wanted to introduce our new captain, Rishabh Pant, to everyone."

After making his IPL debut for the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2016, Pant has been a member of the squad ever since. In 2021, he was promoted to captain.

The powerful wicketkeeper batsman has scored 3284 runs in 111 games with an incredible strike rate of 148.93, making his IPL record one to watch. He has amassed 1209 runs with a strike rate of 127.26 in his 66 Twenty20 International innings for India.
