Selecting a perfect exhaust fan for the bathroom is a critical job. It is not countable the amount of moisture, mold and bad air produced by the bathroom. The prime job of the exhaust fan is to make perfectly airflow inside the room to wipe out the bad air due to mold & moisture. So, it is very important to select the right kind of fan to do the job effectively.

Size of the Fan:

The bathroom exhaust fan is generally smaller in size for general size bathroom. The bathroom does not produce huge air pollutant materials as like kitchen. But, the size of the fan may be big in case of big size bathroom more than 100 square feet. The availability of the free space around the room is also a major factor for proper air flow through ventilation fan.

The rate of Air Flow:

The rate of air flow by the extractor fan is measured by the unit called CFM. CFM stands for Cubic Feet per Minute. This is the calculation of the air volume extracted by the exhaust fan in a minute. The CFM is the best parameter to choose the right kind of fan for the bathroom.

Calculation of CFM:

To know the exact CFM required for a particular size bathroom, there need to calculate the CFM of that unit. This is a very simple process. The CFM of a room is the multiple of its height, width, length & .13 and the product is the required CFM of the room.

For example, if a bathroom is 12’ long, 10’ wide & 14’ high than the CFM of this room is CFM= 12’x10’x14x.13=218.4. So the exhaust fan of this bathroom should be more than 218.4 CFM for the effective ventilation of the room and ventilate the bad air properly.

Some exhausted manufacturing companies have made a standard CFM chart for each category. According to this chart, a toilet needs to use a minimum 50CFM fan; a bath shower & bathtub both need 50 CFM power fan to ventilate. As the jetted tub create more gas & water vapor requires a 100CFM fan to ventilate the bathroom.

Noise Level:

There is both soundless and sound plus ventilators are available, but the noisy bathroom extractor fan is more preferred by the customer. The soundless fan is not so effective in outing the moisture from the bathroom. The louder fan is very effective for bathroom moisture. The sound level of the exhaust fan is measured by the unit “Sone”.

One Sone generates noise that of a silent refrigerator produces. Accordingly, there is a sound level from below one Sone to four Sone is used in the exhaust fan. It is required to run the fan at least 15 minutes to complete ventilate the bathroom. So select the noise level according to the toleration capacity of noise up to 15 minutes.

At last, when it comes to select the best exhaust fan for the bathroom, always go for extra features. There are extra features like lighting, automatic timers and others are available. So choose the best type from wall-mounted or ceiling mounted or inline as per the room type.
