New Years Glider
From: Chuck Darling
A hot-dog box glider
constructed New Years Eve
December 31st, 2023...
Remember, Parents, and
Grandparents...
Balsa Gliders used to be
available in most well-stocked
corner stores...
Not anymore !
It is very rare to find one
Now...
But, with a hot-dog box,
some Transparent tape,
and a penny for
Nose-weight...
You can show your kids
how to build their own
for free !
Don't just yell at them
to turn off the TV or
Computer ...
Build them a glider
and give them WINGS !
-Chuck
PS.
Construction Notes
The New Years flyer was
the same design as the
Christmas Flyer.
About 20 minutes assembly
time between church services
on New Years Eve.
The tail mount uses a 1"
extension from the flat seal
of the box, around the corner.
Trim off the sidewalls, leaving
a thin 1" long curved flat piece.
This is carefully taped to the bottom
of the tail elevator, making a
secure mount.
The Jan 1 Starbucks Glider
was based on the earlier
Starbucks Glider design, using
the handle of a plastic bagel
spreader.
Cut with kitchen Scissors.
About 5 minutes...
The rudder and wings need
hand alignment before flight.
It flew outdoors nicely !
Chuck
