The Masters Tournament, United States
The U.S. Masters is one of the four major golf tournaments known as majors. It is held every year at Augusta National Golf Club, where golfers compete for the chance to win the famous green jacket. Other golf majors are the U.S. Open, The Open, and the PGA Championship.
History
Held annually in the first week of April since 1934, it is held at the private Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. The Masters Tournament is one of four major golf tournaments; The other three are the U.S. Open, the British Open, and the Professional Golf Association Championship. Augusta National Golf Club is hosting the event.
It has always been held in the same place since its inception. Although professionals participate in the competition, some beginner-level athletes are also invited to participate every year. Generally, golfers with impressive past records and achievements are invited to the event. Winners receive lifetime invitations to the Masters, including prize money, gold medals, and invitations to three other golf tournaments over the next five years.
Award Ceremony
The total prize money for the 2021 Masters Tournament was $11,500,000, and the winner was awarded $2,070,000. In the first year of 1934, winner Horton Smith received $1,500 out of a $5,000 purse. After Nicklaus' first win in 1963, he received $20,000, and after his last win in 1986, he received $144,000. In recent years, the wallet has grown rapidly. Between 2001 and 2014, the share of winners increased by $612,000 and wallets increased by $3,400,000.
A green jacket
In addition to the prize money, the winner of the competition is awarded a unique green jacket, which has been officially awarded since 1949 and has been informally awarded to the winner since many years ago. A green sports coat is an official outfit worn by members of Augusta National when they are at a club stadium. Each Masters winner will be an honorary member of the club
A trophy
The winners are also inscribed with their names on the actual Silver Masters trophy. The runner-up receives a silver medal, introduced in 1951. Since 1978, I've had a silver lining
Pre-tournament Event
In 2013, Augusta National teamed up with USGA and US PGA to establish Drive, Chip and Put, a youth golf technology competition first held in 2014.
A par-three game
The par-3 tournament was first introduced in 1960, and was won by snid that year. Since then, it has traditionally been played on Wednesday before the tournament began.
Invite Player
It invites the winners of the world's most prestigious amateur competition. Also, the current American Amateur Champion always plays in the same group as the defending masters champion during the first two days of the tournament.
Opening tee shot
Since 1963, most of the year's custom has been to start the tournament with an honorary opening tee shot on the first hole, typically started by more than one legendary player.
Champions Dinner
The Champions Dinner is held annually on Tuesday evening ahead of the first round on Thursday. The dinner was first held by defending champion Ben Hogan in honor of the past champions of the 1952 tournament.
A caddie
The Masters requires caddies to wear uniforms consisting of white jumpsuits, green masters hats, and white tennis shoes. Each player's last name or sometimes the first initials are on the back of the caddy's uniform.
Trivia
Nicknamed the "Golden Bear," Jack Nicklaus won six Masters tournaments, the highest number ever. Nicklaus, who won one of these titles at the age of 46, is also the oldest winner of the competition.
