Straight from the Pastor’s Heart by Dr. Hernes Abante
2 Chronicles 7:14 - “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
The above passage has been widely used to encourage people to turn toward God without fully comprehending whom it is directed toward. After King Solomon built the Lord's Temple, God gave this instruction and called for a revival.
Revival in Israel reached its peak after the completion of the temple. The Ark of the Covenant was returned, and with the construction of their place of worship, God reminded them of their spiritual calling and responsibilities as followers of God.
The blessing promised was exclusively meant for the people of God and cannot be claimed by anyone else. Only those who have faith in God and are referred to by His name can reap the benefits of this blessing.
As a result of God's saving grace, we are counted among His people in the present era. The social and spiritual state of the world is not dependent on the actions of unbelievers. God is more concerned about how His people respond to life's trials in serving the Lord.
It's important to realize that our disobedience and negligence contribute to wickedness in the world rather than solely blaming the unbelieving world for the sufferings we see. As God's chosen witnesses and ambassadors, we are called to be the light that drives away darkness.
God doesn't expect unbelievers to change, but He has given us everything we need to be righteous and please Him. It's our responsibility to fulfill the tasks that God has given us. We should strive to be humble and avoid wickedness, always seeking God's face and praying. By doing so, God will listen to our cries, forgive our sins, and heal our lands.
Our Prayer for today!
Dear God, it's easy for us to blame others for the pain and suffering we witness. But we must remember that those who do not believe are simply acting according to their true nature. As Your children, You have given us everything we need to serve and live according to Your will. We are grateful for Your grace and for choosing us as Your witnesses and soldiers in Your battle. We know that You have already won the victory. We ask for forgiveness for our disobedience and pride. Please help us to remain faithful in carrying out Your work. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
