Ansel Easton Adams was a photographer and environmentalist, who helped found Group f64.
He promoted "pure" photography which favored sharp focus in his work; he also used the full tonal range of an image to create strong contrasts between light dark areas or vice versa without using any color filters whatsoever!
When young Ansel visited Yosemite National Park for the first time at age 12 with his mother who had taken him on their honeymoon just months prior (something all children are supposed), it's safe bet this made quite an impression - though we'll never know what they did there exactly because she didn't write anything down...
