In optical fiber communications, the dispersion Compensation module (DCM) (also known as the dispersion compensation unit (DCU)) can be used to compensate the large-span dispersion of the transmission fiber. It provides a certain amount of dispersion (fixed dispersion), in addition to the tunable dispersion module. The insertion loss can be compensated with a fiber amplifier, and we also often see that the dispersion compensation module tends to be placed between two fiber amplifiers. The dispersion compensation module (DCM) is mainly used in DWDM networks, which can be said to be mainly used in long-distancenetworks.
