CPP (Canada Pension Plan) disability benefits are designed to provide financial support to people who have become disabled and are unable to work regularly. To qualify for CPP disability benefits, you must meet the following requirements:

  1. You must have made enough contributions to the CPP: To qualify for CPP disability benefits, you must have made enough contributions to the CPP while working. The number of contributions required depends on your age and when you became disabled. You can check your CPP statement of contributions to see if you have made enough contributions.

  2. You must have a severe and prolonged disability: Your disability must be severe enough to prevent you from regularly working at any job. It must also be expected to last for at least one year or be terminal.

  3. You must be under the age of 65: CPP disability benefits are only available to people under the age of 65. If you are over the age of 65, you may be eligible for CPP retirement benefits instead.

  4. You must have applied for other disability benefits: If you have applied for other disability benefits that you may be eligible for, such as workers' compensation or private insurance, you must have applied for them before applying for CPP disability benefits.

To apply for CPP disability benefits, you will need to complete an application form and provide medical documentation to support your claim. The application process can take several months, and it is recommended that you apply as soon as possible after becoming disabled.
