An explosion was reported at a PEMEX LP gas pipeline, causing injuries to nine individuals. This incident marks the third major occurrence reported by the company in this year.

Yesterday afternoon, a PEMEX employee reported an 8m-high flame at kilometer 821+968 of the 14-inch Santa Ana-Palmillas Pipeline, State of Mexico. The property affected by the incident was insured, alleviating some of the financial burdens in the aftermath of the incident.

PEMEX reports that the situation was promptly brought under control and an investigation has been initiated. The NOC also emphasized its unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety of its personnel and the communities it operates in. It reaffirmed its commitment to taking swift action in addressing such incidents.

“The fire was controlled, but property damage was recorded and nine people were injured as a result of the incident. Three of them are workers of PEMEX for which they were transferred to the Tula Regional Hospital to be treated," says the company.

Recent accidents affecting workers have brought PEMEX's environmental, social and governance track record under scrutiny. In February, tragedy struck when two workers lost their lives and three others were hospitalized due to a fire at the Lázaro Cárdenas refinery in Minatitlan, Veracruz. 

Adding to the company's challenges, a fire broke out at one of its pipelines in the Tuzadepetl fuel storage hub, leading to infrastructure damage in Veracruz. The U-100 heater at the Hydrodesulfurization II plant in Salina Cruz, renowned for its production of gasoline and jet fuel, was the source of the incident. PEMEX has recognized notable setbacks in the construction progress of the Salina Cruz oil refinery. Currently, the plant stands at 10% completion after facing considerable delays.
