Education Gap

Several times.
Think it's just because
the kids are too young?
Well, yes and no.
How about a High School
Student, who has her
own Business ?
(The rotary phone)
or a College Grad
Student ?
This is funny to watch...
but it illustrates a
Horrible education gap.
We are currently
offsourcing our technical
manufacturing to
other countries, like
Taiwan, and China.
Technology changes
rapidly...
Around 2000, my daughter
was incredulous that
recorded music used
to be on vinyl records ...
In 20 years, even our
current Smartphones
will be forgotten.
Then what ?
I built this as a homeless man:
Do you think that
these students
don't "get it"
because
the kids aren't
Tech College Types?

I am appalled at the current
level of practical knowledge
of the high-school generation.
Oh, they're essentially as bright
or even brighter than their parents generation...
But.
Eighteen years old high-school
seniors were born in 2006.
Before they could read, or
hold a crayon or a pencil,
the modern global smartphone
Internet was in place...
Doting parents let their kids
have touch-screen devices
and internet access, before
they knew their ABC's.
They SEEM incredibly smart
and knowledgeable...
But their real know-how
is skin-deep !
If the current environment
failed by the time they are
Twenty-Five... many of them
would be filling responsible
positions in Global Society.
If the Internet failed THEN...
only 7 years from now...
What would the world do?
The Internet failure could
come through many ways.
Grid Failure.
Great Earthquake.
Solar Storm.
Wars.
Malactors in high position.
Political Change.
Great Floods.
Service Overpricing
and/or excessive taxation.
UFO (REAL) events...
Got it?
This is no small problem !
I remember when my son
was in University, trying to
cram-study University Physics.
Around 2001.
We had sent him to a Catholic
School, and a Jesuit High School, and he did very well,
obtaining a Scholarship to University.
We had home computers
since he was born.
He was trying to retain the
Formulas of Velocity and
Acceleration, and their relation
to each other...
Having studied these things
myself, I said to him,
It's Easy ! You took Calculus...
Acceleration
is the Derivative of the
Velocity formula !
What do you think he said ?
"Oh, Dad..! I forgot all that !!!"
You forgot all that..?
What do you think you
learned it for ?
He did well in University,
eventually becoming a
Computer Systems Analyst...
But.
You see what I mean ?
Many adults in American
Society can't READ !
HOW CAN THEY
TYPE IN AN
INTERNET URL ADDRESS, WHEN,
as was the case of my
Sister's Son...
His affluent Suburban
High School deemed
"SPELLING IS OPTIONAL"
HUH ?
If the Internet/Grid failed
in our kid's working time...
They would be LOST !
No Internet.
No Social Media.
No X.com
No Facebook.
No Cellphones.
Lost !!!!!
Not just the average person...
Everyone !
Doctors
Lawyers
Supermarket Managers
Congressmen
Agencies
World Leaders
Everyone !
Thus:
Social Chaos
and mass extinction
due to failures of
the systems that
keep everything functioning
and
"Do the THINKING for us !"
Education must be
revamped in light
of this grim possibility.
Lower level schools
should BAN smartphones.
Children should be taught
PHONICS all through
K-8.
PHONICS is essential
to Reading, because
printed words only
make sense, when we
Know what the printed
text SOUNDS like !
Why is College Math
so difficult ?
Because Students don't
know what Greek Letters
sound like, and so
they can't verbally memorize
the Formulas, and they
fail, or learn with great
difficulty.
Why is the Medical Field
so difficult to learn?
Greek and Latin terms !
I never studied Greek.
It would have made
Math and Physics much
easier to learn.
The Catholic Church
once said the Mass in
Latin...
That changed when I
was 7 years old...
I was learning the
Latin Mass responses
from bilingual Missals
and weekly repetition .
No one gets that anymore !
The Greek Alphabet names
should be taught in Elementary
School.
Common Latin terms should
be taught before High School
is complete.
If our Congressmen and
Doctors and Engineers and
Teachers ever have to
Bootstrap our economy
in light of internet loss...
They better know their
Math tables, and how
to read, and how to
practically
find a book
in a library without a
Card Catalog.
They will have no other choice .
