PS:
My first course in Fortran and Basic
was in 1972. Our School had an IBM 1130,
with a 5MB removable platter drive, and
a punched card reader.
Floppy Disks were introduced by IBM
in 1973, as was
the Winchester Hard Drive,
the basis for modern hard drives.
Don Woods released ADVENTURE in 1977.
Willie Crowther's 1976 version had no game elements, it was a cave simulation.

It's a little concerning that Hard Drive
and CD technology are being completely
replaced with chip based memory,
as Solar CME's and EMP's could render
them all useless.
Huh.
