Introduction of N-type ZH-72B Power Cord
N-type ZH-72B power cord and socket are only available in Brazil and South Africa. Brazil set the N-type ZH-72B power cord and socket as its power supply standard in 2001, through this measure to end the coexistence of many different types of plugs and sockets in the country.
The N-type ZH-72B power cord has three round prongs arranged in a triangle, and two power prongs have 10 mm long insulation on the bottom, so even if the plug is not fully inserted into the socket, the risk of electric shock can be avoided.
Type N plugs are available in three versions, two with a current rating of 10 A and 20 A for use in Brazil, and one with a current rating of 16 A for use in South Africa. All three versions of the N-type plug have a pin length of 19 mm, but different diameters: the 10 A version has a pin diameter of 4 mm; the 16 A version has a pin diameter of 4.5 mm; and the 20 A version has a pin diameter of 4.8 mm. The centres of the neutral and live pins are 19 mm apart for all three versions.
The N-type plug looks very similar to the Swiss J-type plug, but the two are not universal because the ground prong of the N-type plug is closer to the center of the plug.
