Your baby’s sensitive skin needs extra care as the temperature begins to soar in summers. Hot days with low humidity levels may leave your baby's’ skin dry and more susceptible to rashes and prickly heat. Baby diapers and soft baby wipes are indispensable, but make sure you buy the right one for summer needs. Nurture and nourish your baby’s skin with a few simple steps to guard your baby against summer heat.

Bathing Regularly

Though babies don't really get dirty, they do sweat. Bathe your baby regularly with warm water. You can even give your little one bath twice daily in summers to keep the baby fresh. Avoid using soaps though as it drains the skin’s natural oil and causes dryness. Also, keep the bath time short, avoid bubble baths and do not let your baby sit in the tub for long. If you massage your baby with coconut oil, remember to do it before bath, so that the extra oil is removed from the skin while bathing.

Choose the Right Baby Wipes

Baby wipes are a great choice to clean the baby when changing diapers. Choosing the right baby wipe is essential. Make sure that you choose alcohol free baby wipes which are gentle on the skin and do not cause dryness. Baby wipes made with purified water are the best option. Opt for baby wipes with natural ingredients which replenish the baby’s skin moisture and keep the skin soft.

Baby Clothing

Dress your baby in soft and light cotton fabric clothes which allow the skin to breathe. Avoid clothes that trap the body heat and cause sweating.

Taking the Baby Out

There is no reason why you can't take your little one out in summers. Just avoid going out during day time, when the sun is too bright. Mornings and evening when it's pleasant outside take the baby for regular walks in the stroller. Just remember to keep clothing light. If you have to take your baby out in the sun always use a cotton cap to cover the head.

Changing Diapers

Change your baby’s diaper frequently. And when the baby poops in the diaper, immediately change the soiled diaper. When changing, clean the baby with baby wipes. If you see any redness or inflammation on the baby’s bottom apply a good diaper rash cream to treat the rash.

Moisturize Baby Skin

Babies naturally have soft and moist skin. If however, you feel that your baby's skin is getting dry due to the weather, use good baby lotion to replenish the moisture. Opt for a lotion which is non-greasy, clinically proven, made with natural ingredients, contains no harsh chemicals, paraben free and fragrance-free. Try the lotion on baby's leg for a few days first just to ensure that it suits your baby skin. If it's tender you can apply all over.

You might be tempted to use baby power during summers, but when it’s already dry, talcum powers aren't the right choice as they will only increase dryness. Also, doctors’ advice against using baby powders as inhaling talcum powder can cause serious ailments in little babies.
