Sanitary Napkins and Tampons: Which one’s better?

Switching from sanitary napkins to tampons may appear a little intimidating, but if you are up for the adventure, here is an article for you to give a read before you go ahead.

Sanitary napkins always happen to be the go to menstrual product for a lot of women. They are not only easy to use, but are super comfortable during both light and heavy flow days. These pads are created to soak up the menstrual blood up to several hours and come in different variants. Women who are accustomed to using these pads would surely agree that sanitary pads are super handy and can be used without much of a hassle.

These pads do not have any cons as such. If you are comfortable using them and do not want to give other products a try then it is completely okay. But, if you look around, the market offers other menstrual products that can be worth taking a risk. After all, switching to a better and more comfortable method of menstrual management does no harm. We are here referring to Tampons.

Tampons as most of you would know also soak up menstrual blood. But, the usage is a lot different than that of the sanitary pads. Tampons are to be inserted into the vagina using either fingers or applicators. They come with a string attached to them which is to be used for pulling out the product safely out of the vagina. The concept of insertion may appear a little intimidating as there are so many myths around it, but none of which is true. You may take a little time to get the hang of the insertion but it does no harm to your body. Once you get accustomed to using them, you surely won’t look back.

The tampon brands have made the insertion even easier with the introduction of the applicators. These applicators are made with a soft material which has a rounded tip for a smoother gliding of the tampon into the vagina. This way you won’t have to put much of an effort and still get it placed correctly. Also, with a portion of the tampon being made transparent makes you easily locate the string.

Talking about the tampons price, they pretty much are the same as sanitary pads. Also, they come in different sizes so as to fit all budgets.

Tampons can come to your rescue when you are eagerly looking forward to wearing that bodycon dress or skirt of yours to a party but you are on your periods. If you use a tampon, you won’t have to wear anything extra underneath. Just wear your regular panties along and you are all set. Also, if you like wearing breezy clothes at night, tampons for you are the best choice as they will save your nighties or panties from stains and leakage. However, you will have to get up and put on a fresh one as you should not be staying in the same tampon for more than four hours.

A quick guide to using tampon:

  • Wash your hands
  • Put one of your feet on a stool or squat.
  • Carefully insert the tampon and make sure to keep the string intact.
  • To remove, you can again squat or put your feet on a stool and then carefully pull the string to pull out the product.

Also, tampons are the best for when you have to wear white outfits. They are made to fit inside your vagina well so that the blood gets soaked in them before it can leave the body. This way it prevents leakage and staining and lets you wear your whites without having to worry. However, because menstrual flow varies from woman to woman, you must change tampons as frequently as you need even if you are at home. Staying in a soiled product; even if it is a tampon or a sanitary pad, it can tamper with your personal hygiene giving birth to harmful bacteria.

You will find both tampons and sanitary pads online and offline.
