Mary Luana Williams was brought up in the middle of a violent and chaotic Black Power movement. Bloody shoot-outs between the police and her people was a harsh reality for her.

At age 14, Mary Williams was transferred from the streets of East Oakland to Jane Fonda's estate in Santa Monica. It wasn't just that a poor black child from a broken home was rescued by a wealthy white family. Jane and Mary had a connection and they were so much alike.

Ted Turner was Jane's third husband. Despite having five other children, Ted embraced Mary like her own. He welcomed her into his house with open fatherly arms. Ted and Mary are so close that she calls him her true father. He is kind, compassionate, and loving towards her.

Even after Jane's divorce from him, they meet and spent Christmas together with Ted's other kids. People may point out their differences. But their love bond has defied color and race.
