Candidate For Mayor Of Smiths Station
Soon there will be an election for the Mayor of Smiths Station Alabama. Running for the seat is John Bessant Jr, who is no stranger to the community. What is hidden though is his extensive criminal arrest record. He's been asked multiple times for the candidate to respond, but have yet to get any feedback for why he refuses to discuss his record with the public.
Many in the public would like to know why there are multiple records of spousal abuse from the 1970's. He has been no stranger to the court recently either. As recently as 2011, he was cited for failure to appear for a seat-belt violation, and earlier this year (2016) he was cited, and plead guilty to, illegally hunting on the private property of the local postmaster.
Such actions by themselves aren't individually damning, but the repeated violations show a personal contempt for the rule of law. The people of Smiths Station deserve a response to these accusations, and he has still offered none.
Mr. Bessant, please respond and tell the people about your criminal record. Continuing to suppress it makes you seem dishonest and withholding. Perhaps you have explanations for each, but how will we know if you continue to act as though they don't exist.
