Hiking is fun. If you've only gone for a few before this, and you haven’t ever stayed the night in a camp, then you’re in for an absolute treat. Before you head off, though, make sure you pack enough of the essentials in your backpack. Going on a hiking trip might be fun but that doesn't mean you’ll take the risk of going unprepared. Things can happen when you’re on the mountain and you need to stay on your toes, literally. That’s why it’s smart to pack along the right pairs of socks. How many will you need? Here are a few things you’ll need to know, so you can decide what and how many pairs you’ll bring.
How Many Should You Bring?
Generally, it’s a good idea to bring along three pairs of socks. Two is the minimum, but you’ll be much more comfortable with three. You could always pack more for a multi-day hiking trip but keep in mind that everything you bring along with you will add to the weight that you carry on your back. Even the lightest packs will feel heavier once you’ve been on your feet for hours, as you try to trek to the top.
Why Three and Why Two?
Three pairs of socks are the standard because most hikers wear two pairs when they’re on a climb. The last pair is a safety measure, one that they can pair just in case one or both socks they’re wearing give out, get damaged, soaked, or destroyed. For those who bring along two pairs of socks, that’s usually common practice for hikers who wear a pair of high-performance socks. Meaning, the pair they’re wearing is thick and durable enough to prevent blistering, even after hours of hiking. The other pair is an extra. They can change into that pair while they dry the other pair for the night. An extra pair also comes in handy in case the hiking socks they’ve worn get destroyed.
Where to Get Hiking Socks?
Look for a trustworthy online shop or supplier. Check out the inventory. How many other products does the shop offer? Does it provide other types of socks? What other socks are sold under its hiking category? If you want to be comfortable on your hiking trips, you’ll need to upgrade your socks collection. Making do with plain cotton socks won’t do. Some mountains have warm weather. Some have cold weather. Some start out warm and then get colder the closer you are to the summit. That’s why you’ll need to be prepared. Packing along enough of the socks you need will help. To do that, you’ll have to stock up on enough socks that fit the bill.
What Socks Should You Get?
If you’re hiking on warm weather, thin socks should be good. For cold weather, get something thicker. Either way, your feet will be comfortable. You’ll also want to consider the material. Look for moisture wicking properties in socks, too. that will keep your feet from getting sweaty, which also prevents odor and bacteria.
