Since it's inception, the Eagle Award has come to represent a notable achievement within the Colorado housing community. This award is presented to organizations that, not only show themselves as an example to the community by putting forth initiatives that lead to successful affordable housing development but in doing so have increased employment while preserving and providing success that others in the communities can emulate and follow to ongoing success in the category of "affordable housing". What makes this award unique, is that the Bridge House program has only been at its current facility for 1 year. The even more amazing part of this is the actual difficulties that can come into play when you consider that a large percentage of the residents are coming straight out of incarceration. There aren't many if any, homeless shelters combined with work programs combined with individually crafted rehabilitation programs that take 40+ individuals coming from mixed circumstances, like direct from prison, jail, off of the streets, out of hospitals, rehabs, detox centers, people who are struggling with alcohol dependency, recurring & lifelong drug addictions, both male and female...under one roof, and succeed.
But they are doing it in Boulder and doing it successfully.
Housing Colorado is pleased to announce the recipients of its Eagle Awards and People’s Choice Award. Each year, Housing Colorado honors successes in affordable housing by recognizing nominees and winners at the annual Housing Colorado NOW! Conference. This year’s awards ceremony was held on October 7, 2016.
The Eagle Awards was established in 1990, and represents one of the highest achievements within the Colorado housing community. These prestigious awards celebrate the extraordinary accomplishments and outstanding leadership in housing and support services. The awards honor individuals and collaborative projects that soar to new heights in their work to ensure safe, decent, affordable housing for all Coloradans. The People’s Choice Award winner is an Eagle Award nominee who is selected by the affordable housing community in recognition of their extraordinary work in the industry.
The 2016 Eagle Award winners are:
Douglas County Cares Program was created two years ago from four community partnerships, and now includes thirteen local and regional non-profits partners. The partners provide services to support and stabilize families while motivating and coaching them to become self-sufficient. Through stabilized housing and increased employment by preserving, providing and developing housing choices.
Peak One Neighborhood is a workforce housing neighborhood envisioned and developed by the Town of Frisco and Brynn Grey Partners, a workforce housing developer. Peak One Neighborhood is a springboard, a foundation of year-round, real, working families who are deeply invested in their town. The neighborhood has defined a bright future for Frisco.
Joseph Espinosa has lead Brighton Housing Authority for the last six years. The number of affordable units available has increased by 20 fold during Joseph’s tenure as Executive Director. He has also started two community programs, Career to College Launch and BizLaunch Program. The primary beneficiaries of Joseph’s accomplishments are both senior and family households.
CityScape at Belmar provides 130 units of affordable and market-rate senior housing in Lakewood. They are keeping with the desire for Baby Boomers to live in a thriving community where they can stay active surrounded by a downtown atmosphere with their needs and desires close by.
