Let us discuss what and how exactly blind in poker works since it plays a huge role in poker's betting. You can win the pot by placing bets, and that's where the blind comes into play. So, let's look at it more closely, shall we?
Blind in poker is a certain amount of money that a few players are required to put in the pot before the betting round begins. There are two types of blinds - big and small blind. However, sometimes there can be a zero blind or three blinds too. Once the cards get dealt, the player on the left becomes the small blind, and the player next to the small blind becomes the big blind.
The concept behind the blind in poker is to give rise to temptation, so the players get the urge to recover the bet they placed as small and big blinds.
Let's see how the betting works after the blinds get placed in poker.
In the initial betting round, the opportunity to bet goes to the player seated on the big blind's left. The blinds placed by the two players, the big and the small blind to the dealer's left, get considered their bets. In the next betting round, the opportunity to bet goes to the active player on the dealer's left. They can either choose to fold their cards or call or raise the bet. The blinds in a poker game have rules that differ from game to game and depends on the players as well.
Small blind in poker -
The small blind bet will be equal to half of the minimum bet in a limit poker game.
So, if the bet is for INR 1000, then the small blind will place INR 500.
For a no-limit poker game, if the bet is INR 100, then the small blind will be INR 50.
Big blind in poker -
The big blind bet will be equal or double the amount of bet placed in the limit poker game.
For example, if the bet gets placed for INR 100, then the big blind will place either INR 100.
In a no-limit game, if the bet is INR 100, then the big blind will place the bet for INR 100.
So, this is how the big and the small blind in poker work.
Now that we are clear on the concept of blinds, we shall move on to poker's next important thing: poker hands.
