The standard plan from BigCommerce costs $29.95, which is comparable to the entry-level eCommerce plans from Shopify, Volusion, Wix, and Squarespace.
However, it is a considerably more complete beginning package than any of the others, providing:
- An independent online store
- Being able to sell an unlimited number of items
- Bandwidth and storage are both infinite.
- Accounts for all staff are unlimited.
- Quotes for shipping in real-time
- discount codes and gift cards
- the ability to rate and review
- Selling in several currencies
- POS (point of sale) functionality (this lets you use a BigCommerce store to sell in a physical location)
- Reporting that is professional
- AMP (accelerated mobile pages) functionality
As previously stated, this provides a lot of eCommerce bang for your money, as BigCommerce's base plan includes almost all of the important components of an online shop, which is not usually the case with entry-level plans from competing products.
The BigCommerce Standard plan, for example, allows you to sell in several currencies with automatic conversion - this is a rather unique feature.
The major critique you may level at the entry-level BigCommerce plan is that it lacks features like abandoned cart recovery.
An abandoned cart saver is a useful feature since it allows you to detect users who have abandoned their purchase in the middle of it and immediately send them a reminder email encouraging them to finish it.
This is included in the similar-priced Shopify 'Basic' plan, and it's also accessible at a lower price point from Squarespace,
BigCommerce Standard has a sales limit of $50,000 per year.
