Diabetes is a warning sign for youth and children. In USA more than 1.5 million people are affected with diabetes.
Let us study what diabetes is in accordance with the layman's language.
Diabetes is the increased blood glucose level. How is it dangerous? As we eat to get glucose than why is it dangerous?
It's a common proverb that excess of everything is bad. Similarly Increased blood glucose levels lead to disastrous effects on our body.
Remember if you are diabetic, your heart, Brain, Eyes and kidneys are at stake.
First we'll discuss what are it's effects on heart. We all know that our heart has a rhythmicity, and if we disturb this rhythm it will lead to heart attacks and even death. Remember one organ in our body has sensors , and receipts called Receptors. Our heart also work through these receptors which may increase the rate , and contractility. Similarly glucose which in diabetes is in excess will bind to these receptors and will overshoot our heart leading to increase rate of heart.
Let me make you clear that Rate and contractility are different things, Rate is the number of beats in particular time while contractility is the strength with which it is contracting. So as glucose level increases in blood it leads to increase heart rate not contractility and, may lead to arrhythmia.
If we consider the effects of diabetes on kidneys we must know some basic facts that our kidney filters every thing present in body. The filtration occurs in glomerulus and the filtrate we get is the glomerular filtrate. So when increased glucose levels there is increased glucose filtration. But there is a limit to every thing. When there is extra load on kidneys, our kidneys work against it rather we can say they compensate against it. But this compensation on hand protect us but on the other is a sign that we are destroying our kidneys.
A time comes when our kidneys can not compensate more and it leads to destruction of kidneys which leads to different urinary problems.
Next we consider how it effects our brain, diabetes cause loss of memory. The loss of memory is called dimentia.
If we talk about eyes, diabetes lead to destruction of eyes. Diabetes cause retinopathy, cataracts, macular edema and glaucomas. In other words, it leads to poor vision and even blindness.
