Necessities for UK student visa
The requirements for a UK study visa are not different from a Canada study visa but there are some things you need to keep in mind, they are:
- General requirements: First you need a valid passport to apply for a study visa, some passport-sized photographs and the most important is you must have an acceptance letter from a reputed college or a licensed student sponsor.
- English language proficiency: There are different requirements for different courses. For an undergraduate, you must be proficient to at least have IELTS 5.5. For post-graduate, you must have IELTS 4.0. For a below degree you must have Secure English Language Tests (SELT).
- Financial requirements: You must have funds for your first-year tuition fees or complete fees for your courses.
- Proof of qualifications: You must have all transcripts of your qualifications, with your full name, the name of the institution, the course title, and the date awarded.
- Eligibility criteria: The candidate must be of the age of 16 or over to apply for a UK study visa. They must have enough funds to pay the course fee and to support themselves during their stay. If the student is under 18, he/she must have the parents or their legal guardian’s consent.
- Tuberculosis test results: The main medical examination that you need to go through is for tuberculosis. It is mandatory if you intend to stay in the UK for more than 6 months. For this examination, a chest x-ray has to be taken. If the test results are unsettled, you have to provide a sputum sample.
- Immigration Healthcare Surcharge (IHS): This is mainly for people who want to stay in the UK for more than 6 months. You have to pay IHS; the amount depends on the amount of time you will reside in the UK.
New rules for UK student visa:
The UK government has made some changes to make it easier for international students. A new points-based immigration system was introduced in 2022; in this the student route will be brought into force. There would be no limit on the number of international students who can come to the UK under the route. Some changes were made to the post-study work visa. The students can no longer work for 3 years after completing a Ph.D. After the completion of their master’s, they can stay and work for 2 years. The UK government can extend the PSW to students who have completed their master’s degree.
