banner3.jpgDifferent surfaces require different cleaning processes. You can’t wash a stainless steel surface like the way you wash an enamel surface. Similar is the case with your tiles. Although tiles are highly durable, still there are certain kinds that need to be cleaned and maintained in special ways. That does not necessarily mean that you will have to put some extra effort into cleaning those tiles, it only means a slight change in the manner of cleaning. Ceramic and porcelain tiles are the easiest to take care of while tiles made of materials like slate, marbles, limestone, or granite require special care and might even need specific cleaning solutions. But overall, tiles are easier to maintain as compared to natural marble stone floors.

Slim tiles need special care too, as using abrasive cleaning techniques can damage their finish. We have tried to curate all the important points that you must keep in mind while cleaning your tiles, no matter what material they are made of.

Cleaning Ceramic and Porcelain Tile Floors

As mentioned above, ceramic and porcelain tiles are super-durable and extremely easy to clean. You can follow these simple tips to make your ceramic or porcelain tile floor as shiny as new.

  • Clean up dust and dirt:
Keep the surface clean by sweeping the loose debris off the surface. You can also use a vacuum cleaner. While ceramic tiles are completely dirt-resistant, but sand and solid dirt particle can still dull the glazed surfaces, if not cleaned regularly.
  • Find the right floor mop:

Mopping the floor is very important. Use a rag-type or micro-fiber mop and not a sponge mop. Unlike the sponge mop, the micro-fiber mop does not push the dirty water into the grout lines.

  • Clean stains as quickly as possible:
Although ceramic tiles are stain-resistant, that does not mean that you let a stain sit there for days. Use a recommended cleaner and wipe the stain off as soon as you see it.

Cleaning Stone Tile Floors

The tiles made with natural stone bases such as slate, granite or marble are a little bit sensitive when compared with ceramic and porcelain tiles. Thus, they require a different cleaning method. For these tiles, you will need to use cleaners made specifically for natural stone.

  • Slate Tile:
You can clean slate tiles with any household non-acidic detergent. Dissolve a tablespoon of detergent in 5 liters of water and clean the tiles with a cloth. Remember to wipe the surface off with a dry cloth.

  • Marble Tile:

Marble tiles are very popular because of their stunning looks. However, they are a little high-maintenance. You cannot use a cleaner with an acidic pH level as it can damage the polish permanently. Also, ensure that you don’t use a hard brush to scrub the surface.

  • Granite Tile:

Granite tiles are no different that slate and marble tiles as they too need to be cleaned with a pH-neutral detergent. An acidic cleaning solution can cause discoloration on the granite tiles surface.

Cleaning Tile Grout

Cleaning grout is as important as cleaning tiles. You can scrub tiles all you want but space won’t look clean and feel hygienic as long as grouting lines are dingy. Follow these tips to ensure clean and stainless grout.

  • Prepare a DIY grout cleaner:

You can make a grout cleaner at home that is soft on grout and harsh on dust and greasy residue. Just make a paste of baking soda and water and apply it on grout.

  • Scrub grout:

Use a brush to apply the baking soda and water paste on the grouting lines and lit it remain untouched overnight. Scrub off the paste gently with a soft nylon brush and see the magic.

Following these tips, you can bring back the luster of your tiles floor, be it ceramic, porcelain, limestone, or any other material. Apart from this, buying good quality tiles is also a key factor in the maintenance of tiles. Tiles with great build quality are durable, sturdy, and promise longer service life.
