Varsity jackets are also known as a “letterman jacket”, this button-through outerwear is so-called for the large cloth letter traditionally weaved to the chest. These letters are signifying the wearer has played a sport for a varsity team and would be the first initial one of the player’s school. This leads back to 1865 when jackets and sweaters were first awarded to Harvard University’s school baseball team. It remains to be a tradition ever since.
Sometimes this varsity is commonly confused with some other jacket styles, especially the bomber jacket and the souvenir jacket. This is because of its collarless design and elasticated border.
