How To Create An A-La Carte Board

In the midst of the turbulence of Covid-19, if aren't able to travel to Hawaii then let Hawaii appear to you through the magic of puzzles! There are so many stunning Hawaii scenes to pick from, you may want to hire an expert to help you get puzzle mat. Although you can purchase one from the internet This DIY project can save you time and let you enjoy quality time with your family.

A puzzle board to create flat surfaces that you can move around on. You can also sort colors with my DIY puzzle board. This will make it easier to construct puzzles. Four drawers can be conveniently placed underneath the puzzle at end of the day.

To create this puzzle board, you'll require:

3 pieces of plywood

A picture frame of the same size as each of three pieces of plywood. You can recycle a canvas frame or a 4-picture frame for this. You can also reuse the canvas frame or 4-picture frame. For more details refer to Step 2.

4 drawer knobs 4 screws

They will serve as edges for drawers (essential) and table edges (optional).

wood glue and nail for finishing

Step 1 Take a measurement and cut 3 sheets of wood

Then cut the plywood sheet into 3 identical pieces The size will depend on the puzzles that you're planning to make. Consider this as an example:

500 pieces: 9 x 12 inch

750 pieces: 18 x 24 inch

1,000 pieces: 20 x 30 inch

1,500 pieces: 23 x 33 inch

There aren't any hard rules, but making puzzle mat a few inches larger than the one you have in your mind shouldn't cause any harm. For a 1000-piece puzzle, I used sheets of plywood that were exactly the same size as the picture frame.

With modifications made during Step 5, the first two pieces of wood will serve as the top and bottom of the table. The third piece is the drawers' bottoms.

Step Two: prepare the frame

The frame with four pictures should be cut. It will require 8 cuts (see illustration), and the loose pieces will become your drawer fronts in a moment, so make sure you don't lose the pieces! You can also cut and measure nine planks of wood (3 times the length of your table, and six times the width of the drawers you would like to have) to make the same four-picture frame by using the marked pieces.

Step Three: make the center layer of the puzzle board

Glue and nail the picture frame onto the first piece of plywood. Measure the depth of your drawers will be before they touch the central stick (I measured 17 inches).

Step 4: complete the puzzle board

Nail and glue the second sheet of plywood.

Step 5: cut the drawer's bottoms

The third sheet of plywood is cut into 4 pieces. The width of each piece is the same size that the fronts of drawers. The length was established in Step 3. Before glueing and nailing the drawer's front to each piece of plywood, be sure to reduce (or sand) the edges a little sufficient to compensate for the thickness of the wood used for the bottoms (otherwise they'll not fit!)

Step 6: Close the drawers

Screw handles for drawers. Then glue trim to drawers sides (essential) and table edges (optional and especially useful if you like to slide chunks of puzzle pieces to and from). It can take a while for this process to dry, so take your time!
