Mountain Pose
This pose is also known as Tadasana and is the premise of all the yoga poses done while standing. Tadasana when executed in the right way improves posture, tones abdominal muscles, and strengthens feet, thighs and ankles. It also calms the mind and the central nervous system thereby relieving stress and increasing concentration. Additionally, it helps in relieving sciatica and reduces the impacts of flat feet. Caution should be taken by persons suffering from hypertension, insomnia, balance issues and headaches.
Downward Dog
This is the most fundamental and popular pose in yoga. It is done while standing and bending to form the letter 'V'. When done consistently and in the right way, it deepens respiration, improves blood circulation, strengthens wrists, decreases anxiety, decreases tension headaches, elongates cervical spine and decreases back pain. This pose should be avoided by pregnant women in their third trimester, individuals suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome and those who experience sharp pain during practice bhujangasana.
Reverse Warrior
This is also known as the Dancing Warrior. It is done while standing and serves to stretch the waist. Reverse Warrior stretches and strengthens the groins, legs, waist, hips and the sides of the torso It increases spine flexibility, inner thighs, chest and ankles. Additionally, it adds more strength to the arms, shoulders, and thighs. This pose increases blood circulation all over the body, thereby reducing tiredness and calming the mind. Regular practice of this pose builds stamina and helps relieve lower back pain. People with chronic joint injuries, hypertension and diarrhea should not practice this pose.
Tree Pose
This pose is done balancing while standing. It makes a replica of the steady bearing of a tree. Eyes are kept open in order to maintain balance. It stretches your shoulders, inner thighs and groins, strengthens your feet and leg muscles, it builds balance, calm and relaxes your central nervous system as well as your mind and increases your mind and body awareness. The tree pose should be avoided by people suffering from insomnia, migraines hypotension and hypertension.
