On the case at last, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration uncovered a new potential hardware fault in the 737 Max flight control computer. The fault reportedly involves the random flipping of bits in the microprocessor, likely caused by radiation striking chip circuitry. The phenomenon is widely known. A single bit flip was alleged to have caused sudden acceleration in a Toyota Camry in a wrongful death case then ended up in an Oklahoma court in 2013." {-EETimes}

Electronics inside aircraft are particularly vulnerable to such radiation because they fly at high altitudes and high geographic latitudes where the rays are more intense. A neutron hitting a cell on a microprocessor can change the cell’s electrical charge, flipping its binary state from 0 to 1 or from 1 to 0. I had a long vivid dream
about 20 years ago or longer,
With a mid-air collision
of a commercial plane and
a military flight.
I told them to save the
Pegasus tail section, because
It may have been related
to the accident.
Since then, the Max8 MCAS
crashes happened, and recently
a Japanese 747 and a Japanese
Coast Guard Plane Collided
on a runway.
