MARKET OUTLOOK

As per Triton’s prediction, the market for continuous glucose monitoring system comprising (CGMS) and self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) in Germany would witness a CAGR of 28.09% and 4.90% respectively, in the forecast duration 2019-2025.

Germany has a multilayered healthcare program. There are two types of medical insurance in Germany - law-enforced health insurance and private insurance. In Germany, glucose self-testing has decreased by 8.1%. Patients with type 2 diabetes are excluded from reimbursement under their statutory health insurance plan. In addition, physicians are required to recommend low-priced test strips. It is compulsory for all Germans who earn less than Euro 3,862 per month to join one of the 300 sickness funds. Calibration of blood glucose meters is necessary, as failing to do so may affect their accuracy. The technology used in these devices is highly sensitive, and thus, a new batch of test strips need to be used to calibrate the glucose meters. These calibration issues act as hindrances that restrict the growth of the glucose monitoring system market.
