Security Guide for Wireless Networks

You're aware that you want a secure wireless network. But you don't know how to go about it. It is actually very simple. Follow these steps to create a secure network in just a matter of minutes.

  1. To log in to your router's administrator panel, enter the router address in the address bar of your browser. Most routers have an address of either 192.168.0.1, or 192.168.1.1. You might need to look at the documentation or website for the router manufacturer if the defaults aren't set.
  2. Enter the password and user name for your router. The default password should be used if it has not been changed. This looks something like username: admin, password : blank. Routerpasswords.com allows you to find the default password and username of your router

  3. After you have accessed admin panel, find a tab called "Wireless". You will find several sub-tabs under the Wireless tab. One of these tabs is "Wireless Security". Click here to access the security configuration.
  4. Next, select Security Mode. You should set it to disable by default. There are usually three options: WEP, WPA and WPA2. WPA2 is the most secure. WPA2 provides the best security, WPA2 is more secure. Click generate to choose WEP. The generated key should be written down. You can choose WPA2 or WPA3, then create a shared secret key (pass phrase), and enter it in this box. Save your settings, and the router will reboot.
