Why are they called "Beans"...?
From: Chuck Darling
This is what my software looks like.
It runs under DosBox.
In Zen Buddhism, small wisdom
statements are called koans (Beans)...
I wrote programs...that built
text adventures.
I call my text/htm files "beans",
because they are small htm files,
based on
12 line text files...
Back in DOS times,
everything was TEXT...
and a 24 line display
could hold two
12 line files.
I decided to limit
the files to 12 lines,
so I could use the
DOS split-screen
NORTON EDITOR
to rapidly compare
and build files.
These files have
four visible text lines,
lines 6-11 are used
for navigation links,
and the first and twelvth
lines are used for
File ID, text color, build date,
and control links.
While at a DC poetry table,
I began to use them to record
four line poems.
I decided on a 5,7,5,6 Syllable
format, which leaves a ragged
or "Raw" right margin.
This, combined with my
May '57 birthdate, and
a prophetic dream event
in 1995, led me to call
my poems Raw Beans.
JPICedar takes text beans
that you build with 00Cedar,
and builds a JustPaste.it
formatted htm file,
that you can post online !
A13Cedar lets you view and
navigate local html beans with
the FileViewer app from FileInfo !
Other methods of building
Text Adventures
require encyclopedic
programming skills...
