Civilization has come a long way. Many years ago we lived in forests and mountains, we hunted for food and barely got by cultivating crops. The agricultural revolution began, and we started planting seeds and breeding animals for the purpose of food. From there, we started settling and building villages and towns around reliable sources of water and arable land.
Now we live in cities and countries where water is purified and distributed to every corner. One can argue that the introduction of law and order was what changed humans from savages to civilized people. When laws were introduced, people started thinking about their fellow men, about development and how to better live and coexist together.
Years ago, life was not so easy as it is now. Simple tools like hoes and knives were made from stone, then iron and from there low grade metals and aluminum. Gadgets like our smartphones did not exist, communication was word to word, messengers. Nothing like telephones existed. The concept of the internet was unimaginable in that era but now we have things like that and many more. Life became easy and science and technology helped out a lot. We developed beyond our predecessor’s imagination.
FotiaLamp One of the major advantages of civilization is the ability to see in the dark. The day fire was invented was the day we conquered night and day. In the past, we used firewood and candles, to help us see in the dark. We created simple tools like the torches and simple lamps of candles inside a glass to illuminate the night. A turn point was reached in our ability to see in the dark, that is the invention of the first light bulb by Thomas Edison in 1879.
