IAAF World Championships
It is an international-level athletic competition organized every two years by the International Athletics Federation. Before 1991, it was organized every four years. The foundation of this competition is the elimination of the men's 50 km walk event at the 1976 Olympics. In the same year, the IAAF Council planned to organize the World Championships in Athletics separately.
As a result, a few years later, the first event was held in August 1983 at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium in Finland. 1,300 athletes from more than 150 countries participated. In 2003, about 2,000 athletes from more than 200 countries participated in the event. For the next few years, all women's events were also included in the competition. The winner of the championship will be awarded a prize and a medal.
History
The idea of hosting the World Championships in Athletics was long before the first event of the 1983 Games. In 1913, the IAAF decided that the Olympics would serve as the World Championships in Athletics. This was considered suitable for more than 50 years until many IAAF members began to want to have their own world championships in the late 1960s. The 1976 IAAF Council in Puerto Rico approved the World Championships in Athletics, separate from the Olympics. 먹튀검증
