2022 Nissan Ariya electric crossover

The Nissan Ariya is the new electric crossover of the Japanese company, a model based on the prototype of the same name that Nissan revealed at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. The final production model will begin its commercialization in mid-2021 in Japan and will arrive in the European market a few months later.

The new Nissan Ariya features a complete design language that has allowed, among other things, to introduce the renewed Nissan logo. Starting from the front, we find a slim and sharp headlight with LED technology. Emulating the traditional shape of Nissan’s V-Motion front grille, we find a black section that brings together the logo and the daytime running lights. The sculpted bumper integrates large air intakes at each end, and a large open lower section finished in high-gloss black.

From the side, you can see the wheel arches and sills in the same gloss black material, rounded and clean lines, the battery charging point in the front wing, rear-view mirrors mounted on the doors, a lowering coupe-style roof in glossy black wheels, and 19-inch wheels in a five-spoke design and aerodynamic cut (a set of 20-inch wheels is also available as an option). And from the back, we can see a double shark fin on the roof, a large upper spoiler, a sloping rear window, an optical group that runs the entire width of the vehicle and integrates the name ‘ Nissan, ‘a boot lid in a fairly flat design and a glossy black coated bumper. The Ariya is available in six exterior bi-color combinations, each with a black roof and four striking color combinations. Also offered is the two-tone copper-colored exterior package called Akatsuki.

As for the measurements of the Nissan Ariya, we find an electric SUV with 4,595 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,660 mm in height, all on a platform with a 2,775 mm wheelbase. By comparison, it’s 95mm shorter, 30mm wider, and 50mm lower than the Nissan X-Trail, with a 70mm longer wheelbase.

As for the interior of the Nissan Ariya, we find a minimalist and straightforward technological approach. An excellent example of this is the double 12.3-inch screen for the infotainment system and for the digital instrument cluster. In front of it is a steering wheel with two horizontal spokes and a multitude of integrated switches. At the same time, the center console offers the minimum possible number of physical buttons, many of which have become tactile with haptic feedback. Further down, separated from the central console by not having a traditional transmission, we find a lower console that integrates a small glove box, a lever to manage the electric transmission, and some additional switches. The same is true on the lower left of the dashboard, right next to the steering wheel, where you can find some additional buttons to control different safety systems and driving assistants. The Nissan Ariya offers various options for upholstery and finishes and a trunk with a volumetric capacity of 468 liters (415 liters in the e-4ORCE versions). The total data is unknown once the rear seats are folded down. The Ariya offers space for up to five passengers in the cabin.

Under the body of the new is a wide assortment of fully electric engines designed to meet the needs of all types of drivers. Five main models are available for the European market, including two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions. The first version offers an electric motor with 160 kW (218 hp) of power and 300 Nm of torque, which is powered by a 63 kWh battery that allows it to travel up to 360 km on a single charge. The second version raises the electric motor’s power to 178 kW (242 hp), while the maximum torque remains at 300 Nm. In addition, the battery increases in size to 87 kWh, and its autonomy improves up to 500 kilometers, data calculated according to the WLTP standard. The third option already includes the e-4ORCE propulsion system, which is made up of two electric motors that create an electric all-wheel-drive system. The first option yields a maximum power of 205 kW (279 hp) and a torque of 560 Nm. The battery, in this case, is 63 kWh, which allows you to travel up to 340 kilometers on a single charge.

Nissan also offers two more combinations of this e-4ORCE mechanic. The first delivers 225 kW (306 hp) of power and with a maximum torque of 600 Nm. It is powered by an 87 kWh battery with which it can travel up to 460 km on a single charge. The second, called Ariya e-4ORCE Performance, achieve 290 kW (394 hp) of power and maintains engine torque at 600 Nm. It also equips the 87 kWh battery, but its autonomy is reduced to 400 km given the increase in its performance. The Ariya has a towing capacity of 1,500 kilograms. Regarding recharging times, the 63 kWh battery version includes a 7.4 kW charger for domestic use, while the 87 kWh battery option offers a 22 kW three-phase charger for domestic charging. The Nissan Ariya supports fast charging of up to 130 kW. On the other hand, three driving modes have been designed -Standard, Sport, and ECO- (the e-4ORCE models include a fourth Snow mode) with which the driver can manage the vehicle’s behavior.

Nissan Ariya

The Nissan Ariya electric SUV has integrated all kinds of novelties, safety systems, and driving assistants to show the world its power as a manufacturer. In this way, the Ariya boasts Nissan’s well-known ProPILOT system, a technology that manages steering, acceleration, and braking to provide a semi-autonomous driving system on the highway. ProPILOT Park is an assisted parking system, and the e-Pedal allows driving in most situations without operating the brake pedal, while other technologies such as Nissan’s Smart Protection Shield, which offers the 360-degree view camera, the Forward collision control, the front anti-collision system, and the rear anti-collision system, is also available on the new model. On the other hand, the electric SUV from Nissan offers the latest in connectivity solutions, highlighting the arrival of wireless updates, voice recognition, the route planner, the NissanConnect mobile application, or the accommodation of parameters (climate control, seat position, or lighting) predetermined by the driver, are just a few examples.

The price of the Nissan Ariya has not been revealed for the moment for Europe, but it will arrive in Japan in mid-2021 for 5 million yen, which is around 40,000 euros.
