If you are thinking about taking up a scuba diving course but are very much clueless as to what you need to do, then DFW Scuba Shop has got you covered! We have written down a few tips that a beginner may find worth reading or even better, worth noting!

Some tips for the beginners:

Train your talents first in a pool or in enclosed water

Practice makes flawless and scuba diving is no different. Before diving in open water, it is necessary to exercise all your new skills in a shallow pool or enclosed water. If there is no pool at your disposal, your coach can pick a relaxed environment in the ocean or in the lake where you can brush the floor and stand up with your head above the water.

Ask for guidance if you have not learned a new talent

You will start practicing withdrawing your underwater regulator and wiping water from your mask before your first swim. You should feel 100% secure when exercising these skills in enclosed water. If you don't feel like you've perfected the technique, ask your coach if you should learn again before your open water swim.

Keep it cool

Jumping in the water for your very first dive will give you nerves, and most if not all novice divers would feel anxious about getting in the water. It's important to stay cool and keep your breathing going before you dive. If you are afraid or worried and breathe fast before you swim, it's a lot harder to catch your breath until you're underwater. Let your teacher know that you need a minute to catch your breath before diving, and please remember the most important law of scuba diving, never hold your breath!

Get the support from the pro

It's necessary to get instruction from a qualified diving professional before your first open water dive. Your coach is going to have you watch a new diver video and have you answer any questions before the dive. When you're at a dive centre, ask to register online for the PADI Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) course. The DSD course is a one-day diving activity intro. The course involves classroom work addressing practical skills and safety, followed by pool or enclosed water skills, following open water plunge.
