Spring Airsoft Pistols - Everything You Need to Know

Spring Airsoft pistols are the ideal choice for first time participants of the Airsoft sport. Spring pistols are reliable and easy to use; all you have to do is cock back the barrel back and pull the trigger to fire. Once fired, the spring inside the barrel is released, pushing a piston forward which rapidly compresses the air behind the BB pellet. This in turn propels the BB forward at anywhere between 200-300 feet per second. This velocity isn't enough to break the skin, but will leave a large welt if you ever get hit by one. Airsoft spring pistols typically use .12g BBs or .20g BBs. The tradeoff between the two is simply distance and power; .12g BBs will shoot further and faster but .20g BBs will pack a stronger punch on their intended target. A great feature about spring Airsoft pistols is that they are extremely reliable. They can be fired in almost any weather condition, whether it be extreme heat or freezing cold, something electric Airsoft guns cannot compare to (the batteries in AEGs will sometime malfunction in cold temperatures, causing the gun to be inoperable). Spring pistols can even fire underwater, although we don't recommend doing so. Often modeled after real military grade firearms at a 1:1 scale, spring Airsoft pistols are heavy in weight and exceptionally portable. Two of the most popular models are the military issued 1911 and M9, each has hundreds of spring pistols replicated after them. Although spring pistols are no longer seen in Airsoft skirmishes and tournaments very frequently these days, they are still a blast to have for shooting soft drink cans in your basement or backyard. Almost everyone who's purchased an Airsoft gun at some point in their life started off with a spring pistol, which is why they are still one of the most popular forms of Airsoft guns today.
