• 4 Tips to Unstick a Stuck Sliding Glass Shower Door

A sliding glass shower door is a stylish addition to your Toronto-area bathroom. Besides its visual appeal, its other benefits include improving the flow of air, sunlight and traffic through the space.

However, like other mechanical objects, sliding glass shower doors can have issues. These can be as small as a loose screw or as big as the shattering of glass when enjoying your shower. They can also get stuck or even break down.

Repair Tips for a Jammed Sliding Glass Shower Door

Last winter, when I grabbed the metal bar to open my sliding shower door, I found it stuck. When I tried to slide the door forcefully, the rollers got misaligned and the whole door broke down. This happened in the early morning and I was unable to contact my local technician. I even tried to get in touch with a few other glass companies but no one responded.

Undoubtedly, hiring a leading glass company is the best option for repairing your sliding glass door. But if you want to try to fix it yourself, here are the steps to follow:

1. Adjust The Rollers

First, raise the sliding door on the track with the help of a screwdriver or Allen key. Lift it just enough to clear the track and then roll properly.

Find the two screws near the door’s bottom and adjust their trim caps. If one side is lower, raise it until the door gets locked back on the track. However, if the door continues to stick, turn the screws a bit to lift the whole thing. Next, slide the glass shower door slightly to confirm that the gap is even.

2. Get Rid of Stop Moulding

The next step is to remove the screws used to hold the stop moulding. (If you close a door, there is a strip of wood or other materials that prevent it from wavering through its frame. This is the stop moulding.)

Cut the varnish line or paint on the side of this stop moulding and ensure that it is pulled off effectively. If this door still does not slide smoothly, you need to examine the rollers.

3. Raise the Door

Hold the sliding door by its edges. Raise it and tilt it forward nearly one foot. Then raise it out of the track one edge at a time. Then tilt the door back and set it on a sawhorse. (A sawhorse is a frame that usually supports materials during sawing.) Then inspect the rollers again.
