The Hundred 2025 got off to a fiery start as Oval Invincibles began their title defence with a commanding win over London Spirit in the season opener. It was a complete team performance from the Invincibles, headlined by standout displays from Rashid Khan and Sam Curran, who showcased their class with both ball and bat respectively.

Rashid Khan’s Magic with the Ball
Returning to the tournament after missing the 2024 edition, Rashid Khan reminded everyone why he’s considered one of the best T20 bowlers in the world. Bowling with precision and deception, Rashid claimed 3 wickets for just 14 runs in his 20 balls, breaking the back of London Spirit’s middle order.
He outfoxed big hitters with his sharp googlies and impeccable control, silencing any doubts about his fitness or rhythm. His spell turned the momentum firmly in Oval’s favour and restricted London Spirit to a below-par total.
Sam Curran Steers the Chase
Chasing 132, the Invincibles had a steady start but lost a couple of early wickets. That’s when Sam Curran stepped up. Known for his finishing abilities and calm temperament, Curran played a mature and unbeaten knock of 47 off 28 balls, guiding his team to victory with 10 balls to spare.
He was well supported by Jordan Cox and Heinrich Klaasen, but it was Curran’s clean hitting and ability to find gaps under pressure that stood out. He was rightly awarded Player of the Match for his all-round impact, which also included a wicket with the ball earlier in the match.
A Statement Win
For Oval Invincibles, this win was more than just two points — it was a statement to the rest of the competition. With key players firing and the bowling unit clicking from day one, they’ve sent a clear message that they’re ready to defend their crown.
As for the London Spirit, they’ll need to regroup quickly. Their top order failed to fire, and their bowlers struggled to contain the Invincibles’ middle order. With plenty of matches ahead, there’s time to bounce back — but improvements are necessary.
