Men who have a thing for water sports, play and groove on the moves of water. When water waves take you higher and close to the sky, and suddenly when you fall, that butterfly feeling in the stomach can only be experienced. One can enjoy all this only when he knows that while flyboard flying or water surfing, men's underwear won't go in the opposite direction. Everything down there is secure and for that, you need to invest in the right type of fabric, Nylon or polyester and the right type of style, thong.
What is men's thong? Is this available in polyester and nylon?
Thong underwear is the sexiest style among all the styles of men's underwear due to its skimpy design. This can be used as swimwear as well as underwear and is used to keep men's genitals covered and buttocks uncovered. This style of men's underwear consists of a thin waistband and its thin strip of material is made to be worn between the buttocks, that connects the middle of the waistband with the bottom front of the garment .G-string is a type of men's thong.
Apart from nylon, polyester, these are crafted in other fabrics as well such as lycra, cotton, silk, modal.
But we will be discussing the pros and cons of poly and nylon for swimwear.
Polyester:
It's a synthetic fabric which is known as polyethene naphthalate, its scientific name. To obtain a polyester thread, its important to create a chemical solution. This fabric is widely used in apparels, carpets, drapes, bedding and in other industrial sectors.
Features:
Polyester is not at all heavy on the body and its outfits absorb sweat very well hence its clothes act warmer in cool weather and clammy in warm weather. Men born with sensitive skin should avoid wearing them as it can irritate.
Earlier printing was a tedious task to do on this fabric but with the arrival of advanced printing technologies, things became quite simpler but not as easy as printing on cotton and other blended fabrics thus polyester-based products are more expensive.
It's highly durable hence men's lingerie whether its thongs or briefs stay for a long period. As the polyester fabric is known for resistance to wrinkling, shrinking and fading hence its recommended to machine wash them in warm water with a good detergent and then go for tumble dry at low-temp.
Although there are various types of fabric blends in the market, the highly popular ones are cotton-polyester( 65/35 and 50/50), polyester-cotton-rayon blend (50/25/25) and polyester-spandex blends( 85/15). The cotton-polyester blend is versatile and is used to make bedding and shirts. This famous tri-combination of polyester-cotton-rayon makes the perfect fabric for loose fit apparel, and are loved for their snugly feel. Polyester-spandex blends are widely used in active wear.
Most swimwear brands don't prefer using polyester in 100% form as it's not comfortable. As it is hence they use PBT polyester. PBT absorbs less water and dries up quickly and when Chlorban is further added to this fabric its protects you from harmful UV without hampering your comfort. It's long-lasting as well.
Qualities of Polyester Swimwear Fabric:
The qualities of polyester that are most relevant to swimsuit fabrics are:
Its Durable: Poly thong holds its shape very well when in water and outside water. because of its high durability, poly thong stays for a long time.
Colorfastness: Whether it's dyed or printed, poly has a good hold of colour in both the cases.
Budget-friendly: One doesn't have to spend too much on poly thong underwear as they are one of the most reasonably-priced swimwear fabrics.
Printing: sublimation print can be done easily on this fabric and colors will be bright, clear and permanent.
Nylon
Nylon is also a type of synthetic fabric which is known as polyamide scientifically. To attain its fibers, first of all, the liquid is created, then they are spun mechanically and then dried into individual fibers. whether its apparel or men's lingerie, nylon is widely used. its also used in making raincoats, swimwear, carpets, drapes and bedding.
Nylon is a third option from which many competitive swimmers may choose.
This is either combined with Lycra or used alone. The biggest advantage of wearing them while swimming is that being lightweight yet its great strength. The biggest drawback of this fabric is that it starts fading and losing its shape over time.
Features:
Nylon as a fabric has low-moisture absorbency. its light-weight, warm, smooth, soft and quick-drying features make it an ideal fabric for your lingerie and swimwear. It is typically softer than polyester. Despite its softness, nylon typically has a shinier appearance than polyester and is stretchier than polyester. Nylon underwear and clothes fade away quickly as compared to polyester.
Its high tensile strength makes underneath outfit long-lasting. Being the lightest, it is very strong.
although its elasticity is pretty good but still have some limit to it hence that won't recover their shape if stretched too much and this might be a drawback of nylon thongs or swimsuits similarly, on the other hand, this fabric sounds perfect for your swimsuit as its low absorbency let water stay on the surface and runs off the smooth fabric and dries quickly. Its outfit is not suitable for humid and warm weather. This fabric is known for staying in shape and appearance after washing and does not shrink.
Tip: While washing nylon underwear stay away from hot water as it may cause wrinkling.
Qualities of Nylon Thong Swimwear
Durability: Due to its good tensile strength (strong fibers after all) it's an ideal swimwear fabric. It fades and pills more easily under sunlight.
Colorfastness: Nylon hold on color is not that great as compared to polyester.
Cost: This is a bit expensive if compared with polyester.
Printing: Sublimation print is not possible on nylon fabrics.
Wearing right fabric swimwear during swimming is very essential but one even have to consider the weight and composition as no one would like to wear heavyweight swimsuits.
Weight
If the fabric weight is 150 g /m2, it will feel light and will look more like underwear and if it ranges between 200-220g/m2, it will feel heavy hence it's mostly used for competition. Mostly swimwear fabrics range between 180-200 g/m2.
Composition:
When you are going for purchasing men's thongs for swimming look for those men's thongs that consist of Lycra/Spandex/Elastane as you will get more stretch. If you are unable to find that you can look for a combination of nylon and Lycra in which nylon must be 80% and Lycra should be 20%. 85% nylon and 15% Lycra will be less stretchable. Different manufacturers use different ratio so its advisable to get swatches( if possible) or feel the fabric.
Wrapping up on this note that:
Both the fabrics have their pros and cons. Nylon is soft to touch whereas poly can be easily printed and dyed as well. Poly thong stays for a longer period of time and has a good hold on the color which lacks in nylon thongs so now it's your decision that whether you would like to swim in nylon or polyester thongs.
Rest happy swimming.
