It is a fast pacing technology. And people are getting a hang of it. Smart lighting technology is cool stuff where it senses the presence of a living and switches on the light. There is an endless possibilities for this technology. Some of the various examples of this technology are – smart light bulbs, motion sensing lights and smart lights connected with the hub.

We will discuss each example in detail and you can comfortably choose the one that suits you more. Apart from examples, we will give you a brief on the conceptual technologies used in the smart lighting system.
Technologies
Several technologies are used while connecting the smart lighting system with all the devices present in your house. And we have stated some of the major technologies that are being used.
- Wifi: To connect smart lights with the internet you need to connect with the help of wifi routers. However, if you do not have fast working internet, going for a smart lighting system is of no use.
- Bluetooth: If your store-bought smart lighting system is Bluetooth enabled, then you need a BT hub to control it.
- Zig-Bee or Z-wave: A z-wave-enabled smart lighting system can be controlled with a Z-hub.
Examples of smart lighting system
- The Motion Sensing Light: This device uses PIR sensors, it turns on the light whenever it detects motion. When the motion is detected, the PIR sensors send a signal to the hub or directly to a smart bulb to turn it on. This is an important device to ward off burglars, thieves, and strangers and also to prevent unlikely falls when you walk down the gallery.
- Smart light bulb: These smart bulbs are a low-cost solution, are budget-friendly and are based on wifi technology. The installation of these smart bulbs is also easy. The only thing is that the user needs to pair this smart bulb with the wifi network like any device. As it is low cost, users can easily install multiple smart light bulbs at home depending on the necessity. Some of the important features of this device are as follows:
- The brightness of the smart bulb can be easily controlled
- Can be easily controlled remotely
- Does not require any technical knowledge to install these smart devices
- Are highly compatible with IFTTT
- Scheduling is super easy
- Can be easily controlled using voice assistants like Google Mini or Alexa
- Depending on your mood, one can easily change colours
- Smart lighting connected with Hub: Your existing smart light system can be expanded using a hub. Simply put, several smart lights can be added to the existing system. But the only drawback is to make it work, a hub must be used. If not the smart lights won’t work.
Technical Jargons
- IFTTT compatible: IFTTT is a technology which means “If this then that”. Suppose if the user goes to the office at 7.30 am to catch a bus, so he sets the time so that in his absence all the lights will be turned off. However, after office hours if the same user reaches home around 7.30 pm, the lights will be turned on at this time. To reap the benefits of this technology your smart light bulb must be compatible with it.
- PIR Sensors: Passive Infrared sensors are motion sensors that use a pair of pyro-electric sensors that sense heat energy around the surroundings and consequently send signals to the hub.
