This can make the practice of naturism an isolating, repressive and nervous experience instead of a liberating and social one.
Mainstream naturism limits sexual feelings to physical arousal and sexual investigation to deviancy while encouraging a penetrative understanding of sexual behavior. This may limit the educative potential of nudity in expanding our expertise and understanding of sexual feelings beyond the genitals.
Naturist surroundings can offer unique public spaces to investigate sexual feelings and experiences which could be repressed or restricted in traditional public spaces and sexual relationships.
Mainstream naturism may pathologise those who love the eroticism of nudity. An asexual discussion can leave people who experience nudity as sensual feeling uneasy, guilty, defensive and marginalised within the naturist community, in exactly the same way that popular culture frequently pathologises and marginalises naturists.
Mainstream naturism may lead to conscious and unconscious repression of sexual feelings and behaviour that restricts the relationship between naturism and nature.
