Are NuTone Central Vacuum Systems Worth Buying?

Central vacuum systems are permanently installed, whole-house vacuum systems that work through a centrally located, motorized unit that creates suction. The motor and the debris chamber are typically located away from the main living areas, usually in the basement, garage, or storage room.

The NuTone central vacuum system includes a tubing system that is hidden inside the house walls. This tubing system connects to the motorized suction unit and the debris collection chamber. It also connects to vacuum wall ports located throughout the house.

Differences Between The Traditional and Central Vacuum Systems

The motor and debris chamber of the central vacuum system are both stationary. The main difference between a central vacuum system and a traditional, portable push vacuum is that the conventional, mobile vacuum unit has to be carried from room to room while you're vacuuming. In contrast, the central vacuum system's suctioning

component is already present in each room, through the wall ports.

The NuTone central vacuum system needs to be maintained by emptying the central debris collection chamber and cleaning the filter about once or twice a year. Traditional vacuums need filters, belts, and vacuum bags replaced on a semi-regular basis.

  1. Central vacuums are typically larger and often have more powerful suction than portable vacuum units.  Central vacuum systems have 3-5 times the suction power of a conventional vacuum cleaner. Because of that, you might be able to vacuum less often since the central vacuum cleans deeper.
  2. Central vacuum systems allow healthier indoor air quality. The dirt and debris are suctioned into the debris chamber, usually located in the basement or garage. Dust, allergens, and dirt are suctioned and locked from the main living area, leaving no risk of dirt blowing into the living area. This is particularly beneficial for people suffering from allergies or asthma.
  3. The central vacuum cleaner system is quieter than a traditional vacuum because the motor is usually located far from the living and sleeping areas.
  4. The suction of a central vacuum system is unlikely to decrease over time unless your central vacuum filter clogs up. With a traditional vacuum, suction tends to decrease as the bag or canister fills with debris.
  5. You can add vacuum pans to your NuTonecentral vacuum system. Vacuum pans eliminate your need for dustpans. They are under-cabinet or baseboard slots into which you can directly sweep dirt and debris.  Vacuum pans are connected to the central vacuum tubing system and can be installed throughout your house, in kitchens, bathrooms, hallways, bedrooms, and living rooms.  Using a regular broom, you sweep dirt and debris into one of these slots, and the dirt is suctioned away.
