A local employment agency has agreed to open up its financial records for state review after the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity accused the organization of not conducting its business in a transparent manner.
DEO officials say CareerSource of North Central Florida has refused to allow state oversight of its financial records since at least 2016, and improperly documented its costs related to federal grant money.
In a letter to the CareerSource board, officials say the agency improperly allocated two federal grant awards meant to aid workers displaced by hurricanes Irma and Maria, noting that the agency had “drawn down” more than $639,000, but had only used it to help 42 “eligible participants with a total of $37,412.18 provided in wages.” (More)
