Uterine fibroids are a common type of noncancerous tumor that can grow in and on your uterus. Sometimes these tumors become quite large and cause severe abdominal pain and heavy periods. Fibroids can range in size from 1 mm to 10 cm in diameter or even larger.

Symptoms
Symptoms can be impacted by the location, size, and a number of fibroids. The most common signs and symptoms of uterine fibroids include:
- Heavy menstrual bleeding
- Pelvic pressure or pain
- Frequent urination
- Low back pain.
- Difficulty emptying the bladder
- Pain during intercourse
- Hysteroscopy: This procedure is done by inserting a scope through the vagina and cervix and into the uterus. No incisions are made during this procedure the surgeon will use the scope to cut away the fibroids.
- Laparoscopy: In this procedure, the surgeon will use a scope to remove the fibroids. Unlike hysteroscopy, this procedure involves placing a few small incisions in your abdomen. This procedure can also be performed with the assistance of a robot.
- Laparotomy: In this procedure, an incision is made in your abdomen region and the fibroids are removed through this one larger cut.
