How to get a free SSL for your WordPress based Website

 

1. Build your site, then upgrade to the newest WordPress.

2. Update all of your plugins

3. Go to Cloudflare.com and create a free account for your domain. Follow their directions on Name Server changes.

4. Once the account is up, go to "Crypto" and copy these settings.

Under Crypto

SSL = Flexible

Always Use HTTPS = On

HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) = Do not change

Authenticated Origin Pulls = OFF

Minimum TLS Version = Default

Opportunistic Encryption = OFF

Onion Routing = On

TLS 1.3 = enabled

Automatic HTTPS Rewrites

5. Install the Cloudflare plugin, then install the Cloudflare Flexible SSL plugin. These two in this order.

6. It may take up to 24 hours after the site becomes active on Cloudflare for new certificates to issue. After the SSL has been issued, copy these Cloudflare plugin settings.

Always Online = On

Development Mode = Off

Security Level = Medium

Automatic HTTPS Rewrites = On

7. If you come under DDOS attack, login to the Cloudflare website and turn on "Under Attack Mode".
