Tips For Caterers: How To Care For Your Tableware To Avoid Cracks And Chips

Companies that provide restaurant supplies know how important it is to maintain the aesthetic of their tableware. Having cloudy tableware can diminish from the overall experience that one gets from eating in a place that may even serve fantastic food. Using highly maintained tableware is one of the keys to ensuring that the appeal is not lost to those who are dining.

Get the Right Storage

If you aren’t going to transport your restaurant tableware, then you should look for glass racks. Most of them are specifically designed for glasswashers. You only have to rinse your glasses then load them to the rack which will do all the work. After you dry out the glasses, then they are ready for usage the next time around.

For transportation, you should invest in glass jacks. They will ensure that all your glasses are secured in place before, during, and after transportation. This is important because minor cracks which may not be visible at first may become worse as time goes by. Sudden movements may cause a collision with the glassware can leave it chipped permanently.

Avoid Cloudiness

You can use specially formulated detergent to prevent your glassware from becoming cloudy. The cloudy texture that you can observe is known as etching. It occurs when the restaurant supplies are in constant usage. Even if you ensure that you wash all your tableware constantly, you are still going to see them become cloudy as time goes by.

With specific detergents that are formulated to deter cloudiness, you are prolonging the prime aesthetic of all your restaurant tableware. Any visible scratches that you see in your glassware can be prevented by ensuring that there are no specks of dirt or other materials that may cause scratches when you wash them. You should only use the right materials when cleaning your tableware to avoid damages.

Temperature of the Storage

An often overlooked factor that leads to damage to tableware is the temperature of the location where they are stored. It is not common to stress it since most people are too used to just storing their tableware where the designated storage is located. When placing a storage, it is important to take into consideration how much of it is exposed to direct sunlight.

You should also know the humidity all year round where you store your glassware if you want to maintain their quality. Different metals and materials are affected differently by varying temperatures. Storing your plates in room temperature may not be damaging, but storing your glassware in that same temperature may increase the speed of etching.

Antique Tableware

If you have antique tableware, it is vital that you take extra care when using and washing them. You should only use hand-washing products and methods to avoid the damage that you can get from more modern forms of dishwashing which may not be intended for the antique tableware. When hand-washing, you should hold the antique tableware by their handles.
